I hear fat-burning exercises all the time. I saw one answer here on Yahoo Answers that seemed to come close to my answer, but I hope someone knowledgeable can verify it for me. When you exercise for say 30 minutes, you are buring the energy of recently consumed food. If you continue exercising then what happens? Does the body convert fat into carbs? How many calories are in one gram of stored fat? I am following Michael Thurmond’s 6-Day Body Makeover diet (which is low fat, low sodium, and low, but good carbs), and I just want to know the truth about burning fat versus just buring sugar. THANKS!

When you continue exercising, you are burning your stored fat because it turns to energy (not carbs). This diet seems ok, but you also need to keep your protein and fiber high! The protein helps to acheive muscle….The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn.
That fat is actually stored energy. Cutting back on the sugar is a way to not gain weight by storing more fat (energy). The only way to legitimately lose weight (excess fat) is to burn (use) more calories than you eat over a period of time.
The workout that a person does raises their metabolism (rate of burning calories) during the exercise and for a while after the exercise period is done.
A pound of human fat is equal to approximately 3500 calories. That means if the diet (food intake) remains the same, a workout that burns 500 calories must be done for 7 days to burn one pound of fat.
The best way to lose the weight is a combination of exercise and changes in diet. Should you exercise three times a week and burn 1500 calories you can make up the difference by eating 2000 calories less during that week. Cutting back and eating one candy bar less per day will be about 2000 fewer calories.
Remember that proteins are needed to build and maintain your muscle tissue. That muscle tissue is what burns the calories when you exercise or simply walk to the fridge.
